About Me

I work adjacent to the software industry in Sydney, Australia, from the generation whose dreams of owning property is about a millimeter from being closed. I have interests in good governance, improving things at the median (if not below the median), economics, politics and software.

If you’re from the area feel free to drop a line when it opens :)

Project Ambition

This blog pays homage to the internet of the late nineties or early two-thousands; whilst I attempt to draw inspiration from modern practices (and definitely use modern browser functionality) it tries to convey an open and personal web page. My intention is for it to be a platform, private or public depending on the reader, for my thoughts and interests.

This space is mine to explore what can be done whilst avoiding the feature-rich client-side libraries and explore functionality that philosophically consistent with a static site (i.e. relatively straight-forward and deterministic). Part of this exploration is generating/referencing scalable vector graphics to provide to provide light-weight map visualisations and graphs (if I get time to publish data explorations I imagine using a heavier framework). In minimising dependencies on third-party web-based technology I also reduce the amount of indirect tracking that results from this personal project (for example: web request tracking that would be generated by embedding slippy-map resources).

My preference, at least currently, is to prioritise exploration over stability, so at times the site may change drastically, if it does and the content is of interest please bear with me as the exploration magnifies motivation to continue contribution. Thank you in advance.

Compatibility

It is my intention that this site will be compatible with web standards, however, due to limitation in distribution and platform support I will not be validating this implementation in Safari, nor will I limit my exploration based on outstanding issues for that browser.

Technologies

  • Debian I’d love more time to explore self-hosting services (private?), probably on debian
  • Git Would love to shift to a local gitea instance for source control and publishing {TODO :( }
  • GitLab for content storage and diffs
  • Cloudflare for site hosting
  • Graphviz for diagrammatic investigation (text to imagery)
  • Hugo for static site generation
  • SVGs for visualisations

Favourite Media

A list of my favourite owned media. Just a list the reason it may be good or bad is up to you.

My default apps

A list of my default applications for different tasks, hopefully I get to keep this updated.
